Intensive Morning Program

Morning Classes: Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 12:00pm

This intensive morning program focuses on an integrated global approach whereby all the language aspects (vocabulary, grammar, language functions (agreeing and disagreeing, for instance), pronunciation) are dealt with not as separate items but as part and parcel of a theme-based curriculum.

In the course of this program, you will take an active part in various activities and exercises designed to boost and strengthen your language skills, both written and oral.

In the course of this program will therefore be using the four language skills : reading, writing, listening and speaking. The emphasis will be however placed on oral communication.

Course

Following our intensive morning program, you will get a lot of practice in and exposure to the language of your choice through numerous and varied theme-based activities that will revolve around the discovery and better understanding of Montreal, Quebec and Canada. The various themes are as follows:

  • Culture and Society
  • Local and World Cuisine
  • Fashion and the Arts
  • The Climate and the Environment

By the end of this program, not only will you have a better understanding and mastery of your language skills, but also a deeper familiarity and kinship with Montreal and the Canadian and Quebec society as a whole.

Full-day Immersion Program


Dates: Monday 5 th July through to Friday 23th July 2010
Morning Classes: Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 12:00pm
Communication Workshops: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
from 1:00 to 2:00 pm
Practical Class Outings: Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:30 pm
Length: 3 weeks - 69 hours of tuition and integrated outings
Fees: $ 739 CAN

In addition to your Morning Classes, by choosing a Full-day Immersion Program, you will be entitled to another 23 hours of tuition and guided work in Multimedia Labs (Communication Workshops) along with Practical Class Outings.

Course

Communication Workshops

Three times a week, you will take part in Communication Workshops that will help you gain more confidence, predominantly in your oral skills, while broadening the richness of your vocabulary thanks to an array of communicative activities both fun and challenging. These workshops will give you the opportunity to discover a deeper appreciation of life in Montreal, Quebec and Canada.

Place des Arts Practical Class Outings

Once a week, you will participate in Practical Class Outings focusing on cultural and sightseeing tours. Here is a list of the scheduled outings and visits:

  • Guided visit of Vieux-Montreal (July and/or August)
  • Guided visit of the Biodome (July)
  • Guided visit of the Pointe-à-Callières Museum (July)
  • Guided visit of the Biosphere (August)
  • Guided visit of Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood (July)
  • Guided visit of the Golden Square Mile (August)
  • Guided visit of McCord Museum (August)

EXCLUSIVE to the Full-day Immersion Program


Picnic Session

"Talkin' with your Mouth Full"

Through registering in the Full-day Immersion Program, you will have the opportunity, each Friday at lunch time, to go out to nearby UQAM park to eat and "talk with your mouth full". Supervised and conducted by our team of language monitors, these picnic sessions will be an opportunity to further practice and gain more confidence in your new-found language skills in a fun-filled and exciting environment, while enjoying and sharing your home-made lunch.

TFI® (Test de français international)
Preparation Course + Official TFI Examination


Dates: Monday 5 th July through to Friday 23th July 2010
Schedule: Monday and Wednesday: from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Length: 18 hours, including official TFI test-taking in class
Fees: $ 250 CAN

TFI Preparation Course + Official TFI Examination


Course

Through registering in this course, you will greatly enhance your communication skills in French language in professional contexts or in situations involving international relations. You will also acquire numerous test-taking strategies and tips to be better equipped when you take the official TFI examination at the end of this course.


A Plus for your CV

As a non-French speaker, you will enhance the value of your CV with a precise, recognized appraisal of your level of mastery of the French language.


Description of the Test

The TFI comprises 180 multiple-choice questions. It lasts one hour and 50 minutes and is divided into two parts:

Section 1 - Oral Comprehension (42 min.)

  1. Question-Answer (40 questions)
  2. Short Dialogues (30 questions)
  3. Short Speeches (20 questions)

Section 2 - Written Comprehension (68 min.)

  1. Error Identification (25 questions)
  2. Complete the Sentence (25 questions)
  3. Comprehension (40 questions)

Test questions are designed to be relevant to situations requiring international communication, to exchanges of a professional nature and to the demands of everyday corporate life.


Precise Results

The TFI is not a test resulting in success or failure, but a proficiency-level test measuring and validating acquired competencies on a continuous scale from 0 to 990 points.


TFI Certificate

Upon completing this course, you will receive an official certificate. The internationally recognized TFI certificate enhances your level of competency in French and displays:

diplome TFI
  • your family name and first name
  • the number of points obtained in oral comprehension
  • the number of points obtained in written comprehension
  • your overall result
  • the name of the institution where you completed the TFI: UQAM University
  • the date of the test
