This very practical, hand-on program will help you enhance the English language and communication skills that you need to succeed in any business setting. In the course of this program, you will take an active part in various activities and exercises designed to boost and strengthen your business language skills, both oral and written:
Oral Skills :
- Professional business presentation techniques (filmed presentation in Week 2)
- Simulated business meetings
- Professional business negotiation techniques (actual case study negotiation in Week 3)
- Business etiquette
Written Skills :
Professional business correspondence: @mails, letters of inquiries, claim letters, etc.
- Review of major grammar points seen in business contexts
- Business-related vocabulary through texts, websites and multimedia presentations

In addition to your Morning Classes, by choosing a Full-day Immersion Program, you will be entitled to another 20 hours of tuition and guided work in Multimedia Labs (Communication Workshops) along with Company Visits and Cultural Class Outings.The afternoon company visits and cultural outings will be greatly devoted to 3 main business components:
- best business practices,
- key environmental issues and sustainable business,
- the entertainment industry
Communication Workshops *
Two times a week you will take part in Communication Workshops that will help you gain more confidence, predominantly in your oral skills. You will also while broaden the richness of your business vocabulary thanks to an array of communicative activities, fun and challenging, yet in keeping with real-life business situations. These workshops will give you the opportunity to discover a deeper appreciation of business concepts, values and practices. * Days: Mondays and Wednesdays, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm
Company Visits
A major component of this Business English Full-day Immersion Program is to be exposed to real-world business settings. These visits will include:
“The TOHU” Organization(1) :
The TOHU is a non-profit organization founded by En Piste (the national association of circus arts), the National Circus School and the world-renowned and Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil.
Up and running since June 2004, the TOHU is now one of the world's largest gathering places for circus arts training, creation, production and performance. It is remarkable not only for its facilities but also for the extraordinary influence its citizens exercise on the international stage.
In addition to managing the site, the TOHU puts on programming designed to bring life to the public spaces it occupies and administers. The TOHU designs and hosts the ecology programs in the main Pavilion and the activities in the St-Michel Environmental Complex. The TOHU "Green Building" construction won Canada Gold LEED certification Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
This company visit will be the opportunity for you to discover how this one-of-a-kind organisation manages to bring forth together 3 key missions:
- Cultural mission: To secure Montreal's place as an international circus arts capital
- Environmental mission: To actively participate in the revitalization of the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex (of the largest urban landfill site in North America)
- Community mission: To contribute to the cultural, social and economic development of the Saint-Michel neighbourhood in Montreal.

UBISOFT Montreal is a Canadian video game developer. Founded as a subsidiary of UBISOFT in 1997, initially developing low-profile projects, Ubisoft studio is now one of the largest in the world, with some 1,600 employees and is responsible for developing, among others, games in the Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six Vegas and Prince of Persia series. Guided visit of Old-Montreal
Old Montreal, the oldest section of the city alongside the majestic Saint-Lawrence River. Old Montreal is world famous for its history, its architecture, unique in North America, museums, art galleries and numerous cafés and restaurants. In the summer, this vibrant neighbourhood attracts a great many artists, musicians and street performers.
Guided Visit of Montreal International District
Did you know that more than sixty international organisations have established their headquarters in Montréal. Discover the Montréal International District. From the new Jean-Paul-Riopelle Square to the restored Victoria Square, you will enjoy this unique area, that received many awards for original designs and elegant and innovating urban architecture.
Follow your guide throughout historical and modern buildings such as the CDP Capital Building and the World Trade Center, and discover the new RÉSO (Underground Pedestrian Network) passageways.
Guided Visit of the Biosphere
The Biosphere of Environment Canada is a museum in Montreal dedicated to water and the environment. It is located on St. Helen's Island in the building designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller for the United States pavilion for the 1967 World Exhibition: Expo 67. The museum, inaugurated in 1995, offers interactive activities and presents exhibitions about the major environmental issues related to water, climate change and the sustainable development of the Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence ecosystem.

An intermediate level (level 4) minimum in English is ABSOLUTELY required to register in these Business English Programs. It is also recommended to have a minimum of one year academic or professional experience in the area of business.

Instructors and Supervision
Course instructors are all university graduates (Master’s or doctoral level) specialized in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) and notably “Business English”. They have extensive experience teaching adults in immersion and business settings.
Our team of tourism hosts will also be available and accessible to you during the course. Activities will be proposed during your free time should you wish to avail yourself of this service. Below is a sample:
- A variety of sight-seeing trips and visits
- “Explore Montréal” bicycle tours
- Advice on cultural and sporting events, shopping areas, etc.

The administrative team of UQAM’s Summer Language Programs is available to listen to your concerns and to help you in any way we can.
Multimedia Resource Center
UQAM University prides itself on the number of multimedia rooms it offers, and on state-of-the-art computer equipment. You will have free access to these multimedia rooms outside of class hours (email access, personal work, Internet research, etc.).
Business English Program Certification
Upon successfully completing the Program, you will obtain:
UQAM Detailed Program Certificate and Continuing Education Units (CEU):

- Business English Immersion Full-day Program : 6.6 CEU *
* (1 CEU = 10 course hours)
These CEUs meet high-quality standards similar to those used by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) in the United States.

TOEIC Preparation Course + Official TOEIC Examination
Through registering in this course, you will greatly enhance your communication skills in English language in professional contexts or in situations involving international relations. You will also acquire numerous test-taking strategies and tips to be better equipped when you take the official TOEIC examination at the end of this course.
A Plus for your CV
As a non-English speaker, you will enhance the value of your CV with a precise, recognized appraisal of your level of mastery of the English language.
Description of the Test
The TOEIC comprises 200 multiple-choice questions. It lasts two (2) hours and is divided into two parts:
Section 1 - Listening (42 minutes)
- Photographs (20 questions)
- Question-Response (30 questions)
- Short Conversations (30 questions)
- Short Talks (20 questions)
Section 2 - Reading (68 minutes)
- Incomplete sentences (40 questions)
- Error Recognition (20 questions)

Test questions are designed to be relevant to situations requiring international communication, to exchanges of a professional nature and to the demands of everyday corporate life.
Precise Results
The TOEIC is not a test resulting in success or failure, but a proficiency-level test measuring and validating acquired competencies on a continuous scale from 0 to 990 points.
TOEIC Certificate
Upon completing this course, you will receive an official certificate. The internationally recognized TOEIC certificate enhances your level of competency in English and displays:
- your family name and first name
- the number of points obtained in oral comprehension
- the number of points obtained in written comprehension
- your overall result
- the name of the institution where you completed the TOEIC: UQAM University
- the date of the test
- The TOEIC is a product of the Educational Testing Service (ETS®), a leader in the design of psychometric tests like the SAT, the TFI and the TOEFL tests.
